HELLO.

We wanted to take a moment to answer a few questions you might have as we prepare for our inaugural exhibition. If you’ve still got questions, please reach out to us at warimonogallery@gmail.com. Thanks for being here and we look forward to hearing from you!

What is Warimono?

Warimono is an artist-run curatorial project and online platform dedicated to supporting and elevating the artistic journey. We showcase the work of contemporary artists through international open calls that celebrate moments of creativity from artists working across various mediums.

What does your name mean?

"Warimono" is a quintessential Japanese firework that explodes outward in a spherical shape. The most representative of the warimono firework is the chrysanthemum type, which is a circular firework with “stars” streaming out of the middle. This symbolism of fleeting beauty is what inspires our platform.

How will exhibitions work?

Up to thirty artists from around the world will be featured in each online exhibition, and the selected artworks will be shared on our social media channels. After the exhibition, the website will live on as a past exhibition, creating a lasting archive of the art and artists we've had the pleasure of showcasing.

How do you handle art sales?

Warimono will connect potential collectors directly with each artist - we will not take a commission on any sales. This ensures that artists receive the full benefit of their sales and fosters direct relationships between artists and collectors.

Will submissions always be free?

Unfortunately, no. Submission fees are needed to cover the direct costs associated with running this platform while ensuring that Warimono is sustainable and able to commit to future exhibitions. However, at least once a year, we plan to offer open calls without submission fees.

How else are you supporting artists?

Each month Warimono will feature an exhibiting artist. As part of this artist spotlight, we will dive a little deeper into the stories behind the artworks and the creators who bring them to life.

Do you have plans to open a physical space?

Once established, our goal is to organize physical exhibitions in collaboration with fellow artist-run spaces and collaborative institutions and organizations.
